The Irish Pioneers of Ste-Catherine-de-Fossambault by Daniel Stewart June 10

A native of Quebec City, Danny Stewart is a Federal Government retiree, a musician, a St. Patrick’s High School alumnus and a board member of the Société d’histoire catherinoise. He is currently writing a book about his Stewart ancestors.

Cameron of Coirneal Cealteach in Sainte-Agathe-de-Lotbinière will give a presentation titled Our Ancestors: Research and Discovery. The question as to ‘who’ the ancestors were has always intrigued those in the search for their roots. But the “why” behind their presence here opens up multiple levels of surprise and discovery! Join us as Steven L. Cameron shares some of his recent discoveries that further help us understand the times within which the Irish ancestors lived and shed light on the complexity of their story. The Great Famine Voices Roadshow 2019 Quebec City Stop, May 11.

The Quebec City event is presented by Parks Canada and Irish Heritage Quebec in McMahon hall on Saturday May 11 at 12:30. During this event, in addition to having the opportunity to discuss the subject, participants will be offered exclusive conferences – free of charge. Please join us to share your emigration story and souvenirs of these tragic events. The Great Famine Voices Roadshow 2019 a series of open house events in Canada and the United States. In Search of a Voice by Michael Collins

Monday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m.- Irish Heritage Quebec will hold an activity in McMahon Hall, 1145 de Salaberry in Quebec City. Michael Collins is a well-established Irish novelist with ten works of fiction on the market as well as being a world-class marathon runner. In 2016, He completed his long “famine” run from Grosse Ile to Toronto.  Originally from Limerick, Ireland, he currently lives in the United States.  He studied at the University of Notre Dame and completed a PhD at the University of Chicago.

The Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec  has invited Irish Heritage Quebec to attend a presentation to be given by Isabelle Matte in the auditorium in the basement of St. Patrick’s High School on March 21 at 19:00. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.  You must enter by 1085 De Salaberry.  Please note the conference will be in French and is titled Raconte-moi que tu as vu l’Irlande: l’île émeraude comme miroir du Québec.

Irish Heritage Quebec and Genealogical Assistance

☘☘☘ Monday February 11 at 19:30 – Irish Heritage Quebec will hold an activity in McMahon Hall, 1145 de Salaberry in Quebec City. John O’Connor will give a presentation entitled Irish Heritage Quebec and Genealogical Assistance. Over the years Irish Heritage Quebec has answered requests from persons in Canada or the United States who seek assistance to complete their research into family members who once lived in Quebec City and vicinity. Several interesting dossiers will be presented with illustrations of what the research revealed. Refreshments will be served and parking stubs for Îlot St-Patrick will be validated. John O’Connor is a native of Quebec City. In 1966 he received a Bachelor of Arts from Laval University as a graduate of St. Lawrence College. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Laval University in 1969 and became a member of the Quebec Bar in 1970. He taught for 29 years in the Techniques juridiques Program of Rimouski College and Garneau College. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Irish Heritage Quebec since 1999. ☘☘☘

Joe Lonergan is a graduate of St Patrick’s High School. He received his B.A. from St. Lawrence College and holds his B.Ed. and M. A. in History from St. Mary’s University. Retired from a thirty-five year career in education at St. Patrick’s High School he currently serves as president of Irish Heritage Quebec.☘☘☘

2018 Annual Meeting

Monday, December 10, 2018 at 19:30 – Irish Heritage Quebec will hold its annual meeting in McMahon Hall, 1145 De Salaberry in Quebec City.  During the evening Irish Heritage Quebec will also honor Eileen Reid Marcil, a renowned researcher and the author of numerous books on shipbuilding and other trades in Quebec City and in Lévis.  Refreshments and a festive cake will be served.  Members and friends are invited to attend.  Admission is free and parking stubs for Îlot St-Patrick will be validated.

Gary O’Brien on the Irish settlements of Ste-Brigitte-de-Laval and Saint-Dunstan-du-Lac-Beauport

Monday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m.- Gary O’Brien will give a presentation on the Irish settlements of Ste-Brigitte-de-Laval and Saint-Dunstan-du-Lac-Beauport. Once referred to as the Waterloo settlement, many of the settlers had to come to Québec during the great migration following the end of the Napoleonic wars.  Refreshments will be served and parking stubs for Îlot St. Patrick will be validated.
